
The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has officially declared open the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) 2025 Batch B, Stream II Orientation Course for corps members deployed to the state. The ceremony took place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Okada, Ovia North-East Local Government Area.
Governor Okpebholo, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Aiyegbeni Balogun, described Edo State as a land rich in culture, history, and opportunities. He reassured corps members of their welfare, safety, and security, which he said remain top priorities for his administration.
Highlighting the importance of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme, the governor urged corps members to embrace innovation, adaptability, and commitment to excellence during their service year.
“We believe that you, as young Nigerians with enthusiasm, creativity, and eagerness to learn, have qualities that can leave an indelible mark on Edo State,” he said, urging them to respect host communities, cooperate with NYSC management, and contribute to nation-building.
Earlier in her welcome address, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, represented by the State Coordinator, Mrs. Ben-Ushie Frances Ifeoma, announced that as of September 25, 2025, a total of 1,086 corps members — 465 males and 621 females — had been registered and were set to be sworn in.
Brigadier General Nafiu congratulated the corps members, noting that their enlistment marks a new chapter of growth and contribution to national development. He emphasized discipline, self-development, and active participation in NYSC programmes, including the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD), which provides free medical services to remote communities, and SAED trainings that empower youths and women across the state.
He also commended the Edo State Government for providing buses to convey corps members to their places of primary assignment while noting some challenges affecting smooth programme implementation.
The Chief Judge of Edo State, Hon. Justice Daniel Iyobosa Okungbowa, represented by Hon. Vestee Otumaye Eboreime, administered the Oath of Allegiance on the corps members.
Other dignitaries in attendance included representatives of the Nigeria Police, the Nigerian Army’s Four Brigade, the Military Hospital, NDLEA, and Igbinedion University Okada.
