President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s economy has “turned the corner,” attributing the progress to the economic reforms introduced by his administration over the past two years. He assured Nigerians that they would soon begin to enjoy the benefits of the reforms and thanked them for their patience, endurance, and support.

The President made the remarks on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the coronation of Imperial Majesty Oba (Sen) Abdul-Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State and senator, was crowned following years of anticipation and reconciliation within Ibadan’s traditional institution.

President Tinubu hailed the Olubadan for his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s democracy, noting his resilience in overcoming an illegal impeachment during his tenure as governor. He also praised Oba Ladoja’s political legacy, describing him as a “pillar of hope” and a rare leader whose life exemplifies perseverance and dedication.

“It is a joy to witness this historic moment. All the things we started together with great expectations are coming to pass. I pray that you live long and continue to serve as a beacon of hope for Ibadan and Nigeria,” the President said.

Governor Seyi Makinde presented Oba Ladoja with the staff of office and a certificate, affirming that the coronation had ended longstanding disputes over the occupancy of traditional thrones in Ibadan. “All challenges associated with the Ibadan traditional institution are now over. This process is now sacrosanct,” Governor Makinde said.

Oba Ladoja expressed gratitude for his ascension, attributing it to divine guidance and the trust of the Olubadan Council members and kingmakers. “I accept not just the paraphernalia of office but also the responsibilities attached to it. I thank my brother, President Bola Tinubu, for honouring us today,” he said.

The event drew numerous dignitaries, including Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun). Former governors in attendance included Donald Duke, Olagunsoye Oyinola, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Ibikunle Amosun, and Sen. Gbenga Daniel. Traditional rulers such as Sultan Sa’ad Muhammad Abubakar III, Alaafin of Oyo Oba Abimbola Owoade, and Soun of Ogbomoso Oba Ghandi Olaoye were also present.

The President’s entourage included Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji.

The coronation ceremony celebrated both the rich history and unity of Ibadanland while symbolizing hope, stability, and the continuity of tradition in Oyo State.
