NIGERIA RENEWS BID FOR UN SECURITY COUNCIL PERMANENT SEAT

Vice President Kashim Shettima met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to discuss key issues, including Nigeria’s renewed bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

Shettima underscored the importance of UN support in achieving this goal, highlighting the need for global cooperation and collaboration. The discussions also covered bilateral efforts to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strengthen democratic governance in Nigeria.

Emphasizing digital inclusion and youth empowerment as core components of President Bola Tinubu’s agenda, Shettima noted that these initiatives are designed to drive sustainable development and long-term growth in the country.

Nigeria’s push for stronger global partnerships was further reinforced by a strategic agreement with the United Kingdom on trade, defence, and migration, demonstrating the nation’s commitment to collaborative progress and international engagement.
