Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully rescued two officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) who were kidnapped in Benue State.

The officers, identified as David Iorwuese James and Orasuur Oliver, were abducted a few weeks ago along the volatile Benue–Taraba border in Ukum Local Government Area.

According to military sources, the rescue mission was carried out on Friday, September 26, 2025, following credible intelligence provided by appropriate security authorities. The troops launched a precision operation that led to the safe recovery of the officers without reports of casualties.

Security analysts have commended the operation, describing it as another significant step in restoring public confidence in the fight against banditry and kidnappings across the North Central zone. The Benue–Taraba axis has in recent years witnessed recurring cases of abductions and violent crimes, making it a flashpoint for security concerns.

Operation Whirl Stroke, a joint military task force, was established to tackle banditry, communal clashes, and kidnapping in Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa, and parts of Niger State. Friday’s rescue underscores the importance of intelligence sharing and swift tactical response in combating organized criminal networks in rural areas.

The Nigerian Immigration Service has yet to issue an official statement, but sources within the security community said the rescued officers are undergoing medical checks and debriefing.

This successful mission is expected to boost troop morale and further strengthen collaboration between the military and local communities in intelligence gathering.
