The Acting Zonal Director of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Kano Zonal Directorate, Deputy Commander Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, has called for enhanced collaboration between the Commission and the Nigerian Army in areas of joint personnel training and intelligence sharing to combat terrorism financing, particularly through illegal mining.
Sa’ad made the appeal on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, during a courtesy visit to the Brigade Commander of 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General A.M. Tukur, at the Brigade Headquarters in Kano.
He stressed that stronger synergy between both agencies is vital in addressing complex economic and financial crimes that threaten national security and economic stability. He further underscored the need for joint training programmes and effective intelligence sharing to dismantle the network of illegal miners whose proceeds often fund terrorism.
“Collaboration is key in the fight against economic and financial crimes. We are here today to strengthen our existing relationship and explore new frontiers of cooperation, especially in the area of joint training for our personnel. Furthermore, we seek the Brigade’s support in intelligence sharing, particularly in tackling the activities of illegal miners whose proceeds often fuel grave security challenges like terrorism financing,” Sa’ad stated.
In his response, Brig. Gen. Tukur commended the EFCC for its critical role in safeguarding the economy and pledged the Brigade’s continuous partnership. He also requested reciprocal inclusion of Army personnel in EFCC’s training and engagements, while inviting EFCC operatives to take part in the Brigade’s monthly senior officers’ training exercises to strengthen camaraderie and physical fitness.
