Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has raised alarm over the unauthorised use of his image in online advertisements, particularly those generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
In a public statement, Obi said he was aware that individuals and organisations had been exploiting AI-generated images of him to promote various products without his consent. He stressed that while he ordinarily supports genuine initiatives that contribute positively to the nation, such endorsements must be authorised.
Obi warned that some of these misuses have been linked to fraudulent schemes targeting unsuspecting Nigerians.
“I am not associated with any of these advertisements,” he declared, adding that despite several rebuttals from his team, the practices have persisted.
The former governor urged Nigerians to exercise vigilance and to disregard any adverts linking him to products, endorsements, or business ventures. He reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, integrity, and ventures that genuinely advance the common good.
