The Nigeria Police Force, through its National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol, has arrested and transferred a wanted fugitive from Benin Republic, identified as Sunday Kotin, to authorities in Cotonou.

Kotin, who had been declared wanted in his home country, was linked to a string of cross-border crimes including armed banditry, firearms smuggling, cattle rustling, and drug trafficking. According to police sources, seven members of his criminal network are already facing trial in Benin Republic, while he fled into Nigeria to evade prosecution.

Following intelligence sharing between Interpol Benin and Interpol Nigeria, operatives tracked the suspect to Idi Iroko, in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, where he was apprehended in a discreet operation. He was later questioned over his alleged activities before being handed over to Interpol officials from Benin Republic.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and efficiency. He stressed that Nigeria would not provide refuge for fugitives or criminal elements, regardless of their networks or influence.

The police chief further assured both Nigerians and international partners that the country remains committed to strengthening cross-border security cooperation and upholding the rule of law.

The handover highlights ongoing collaboration between Nigeria and global law enforcement agencies in combating transnational crimes.
