The Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for what it described as “insensitive and misleading” remarks following the recent terrorist attack on Wagga Mongoro, Madagali Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Sunday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Abdullahi, the APC accused Atiku of turning a tragic moment into a platform for “unhealthy politics” rather than expressing solidarity with the victims and their grieving families. The party maintained that Atiku’s comments were not only inaccurate but also carried political undertones, suggesting either ignorance of the facts or deliberate mischief.
The APC further questioned Atiku’s credibility, citing his record in Adamawa during his tenure in office. The party alleged that he neglected critical projects in the state, abandoned communities, and prioritized personal business interests.
“When Boko Haram overran Adamawa communities, displaced families, and disrupted livelihoods, Atiku was silent. Now, as peace gradually returns under APC leadership, he suddenly finds his voice—not to unite, but to exploit,” the statement said.
Residents of Madagali and political analysts also reacted to Atiku’s comments. Many locals expressed disappointment, stating that public figures should prioritize empathy and support for affected communities instead of engaging in political posturing. Analysts noted that while criticism of government policies is legitimate, exploiting moments of tragedy for political gain risks deepening divisions and undermines efforts toward security and reconciliation.
The APC reiterated the need for unity and constructive engagement in addressing security challenges in Adamawa and across Nigeria, emphasizing that political discourse should focus on solutions rather than partisan advantage.
