Port Harcourt — Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has successfully brokered peace between the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Hon. Chidi Lloyd, bringing an end to the statewide strike that crippled council activities.

The strike, declared on Tuesday following the dismissal of several workers in Emohua, had led to the shutdown of all 23 council secretariats across the state.

After an emergency meeting at Government House, Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara urged both parties to resolve their differences amicably and prioritize industrial harmony. His intervention paved the way for an immediate suspension of the strike.

NULGE State President, Comrade Clifford Paul, confirmed the union’s decision, instructing members to return to work without delay. He praised the governor for demonstrating leadership and empathy toward the plight of local government workers.

Meanwhile, the Local Government Service Commission and the Emohua Chairman expressed appreciation for the governor’s timely mediation, pledging to implement his directives and restore stability in the state’s council system.

Governor Fubara’s decisive action has not only restored calm but also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights while fostering peace between labour and government institutions.
