Lagos State has once again been plunged into mourning following the death of Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, the Council Manager of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA). Her passing on Monday, September 29, 2025, marks the fifth death of a female local government official in the state over the past few months, raising concerns about the recent spate of losses in Lagos’ local governance circles.

Mrs. Akinola, widely regarded as a dedicated and committed public servant, was celebrated by colleagues and residents alike for her unwavering contribution to grassroots governance. Her leadership and service at Coker Aguda LCDA earned her respect from both peers and the community she served.

“She was a committed public servant whose contributions to local governance will be long remembered,” a colleague said, describing the shock and grief that has enveloped the council following her death.

The news comes amid a series of recent tragedies affecting female officials in Lagos’ local government system. Among the others who have passed away in recent months is Princess Oluremi Nutayi, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, who died within two months of assuming office. These successive losses have left communities and government offices grappling with grief while highlighting the vulnerability of public officials to unforeseen circumstances.

The cause of Mrs. Akinola’s death has not yet been officially disclosed, and further details are awaited. Authorities and local government colleagues have called for prayers for her family and the community during this difficult period. Lagos residents and public officials have expressed condolences, emphasizing the need to honor her legacy of dedication, professionalism, and service to the people.

“Her passing is a tremendous loss to Coker Aguda and the wider Lagos local government community. Her commitment to serving the people at the grassroots level was exemplary,” a community leader said.

Mrs. Akinola’s death serves as a reminder of the vital role played by local government officials in sustaining governance and development at the grassroots level. Colleagues and residents have expressed hope that her contributions will inspire continued commitment among current and future local government leaders in Lagos.

As Lagos mourns yet another loss among its female officials, stakeholders continue to reflect on the importance of supporting public servants while recognizing the sacrifices they make to ensure effective local governance.
