His Excellency, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Executive Governor of Lagos State, warmly received Ismachiah Oduwole, a young Nigerian sustainability advocate, as she brought the Climate Ball to Lagos for signing. The initiative recognises cities that have made measurable progress in promoting climate resilience and implementing circular economy practices.
Following months of independent review, Lagos was selected for its consistent and concrete actions toward environmental sustainability. The Climate Ball signing symbolizes the city’s commitment to safeguarding the environment, promoting green innovation, and ensuring that future generations inherit a healthier, more sustainable Lagos.
Governor Sanwo-Olu lauded Oduwole’s efforts in championing sustainability on a global scale, emphasizing the importance of empowering young innovators. “This moment reinforces our shared responsibility to protect our environment and develop Lagos as a model for climate resilience in Africa,” the Governor stated. He highlighted that youth engagement is central to building a sustainable city, noting that innovative ideas from young Nigerians can significantly contribute to the state’s environmental goals.
