Fear has gripped Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State following the abduction of a police officer identified as Ezra, an indigene of the Ndanakun community. The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 2, 2025, between 6:00 and 7:00 am, as the officer was returning from duty in Patigi town and heading toward Lade.

Eyewitnesses revealed that Ezra and a colleague were each riding separate motorcycles when they ran into heavily armed men. The suspected bandits reportedly opened fire indiscriminately, forcing the officers into disarray. Ezra, who was in front, was overpowered and captured, while his colleague managed to escape the scene. The abducted officer was taken to an unknown location, leaving his family, colleagues, and community members in deep distress.

The development has heightened fears in Patigi and its surrounding areas, where residents say they have been living under constant threat from criminal gangs. Many described the abduction as a dangerous escalation, warning that if bandits could brazenly seize a police officer, ordinary citizens remain even more vulnerable.

Security sources hinted that tactical teams have since been mobilized to track the kidnappers, with support from vigilante groups and community volunteers. However, as of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been released by the Kwara State Police Command, and the whereabouts of the officer remain unknown.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the rising wave of insecurity in Kwara’s border communities. Patigi, which shares boundaries with Niger State, has increasingly become a soft target for criminal gangs notorious for kidnappings and violent attacks. Residents are now calling for stronger security presence, joint patrols, and improved community policing to restore public confidence.

For now, Ezra’s abduction has become yet another painful reminder of the daring operations of armed groups across the region. Families of the victims and residents of Patigi await concrete action from authorities to ensure his safe return and prevent further incursions.
