Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has officially inaugurated the Kaduna State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (KADSEMSAS), describing it as a landmark achievement in his administration’s drive to save lives and ensure equitable access to emergency healthcare.

Speaking at the launch on Thursday, Governor Sani emphasized that the initiative goes beyond simply providing ambulances. “Our vision is simple but profound: no resident of Kaduna State should be denied timely medical intervention due to distance, delay, or lack of access,” he said.

The system features a fleet of ambulances fully equipped with life-saving tools, a central dispatch center, and trained medical staff capable of stabilizing patients while en route to hospitals. KADSEMSAS will operate across all 23 Local Government Areas, covering both rural and urban communities, and aims to reduce response times for emergencies such as maternal complications, road accidents, and cardiac crises. Citizens will have access to a dedicated line to request the nearest ambulance immediately.

Governor Sani highlighted the government’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage, citing reforms such as strengthening the Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA), revitalizing primary healthcare centers, and improving healthcare worker remuneration.

Kaduna’s Health Commissioner, Umma K. Ahmed, described the program as “a giant leap forward,” noting its integration with the Rural Emergency Medical and Maternal Transport Services (RESMAT) to extend care to hard-to-reach communities. She added that patients—including pregnant women, children, and accident victims—will receive free emergency care for the first 48 hours.

Governor Sani assured residents that the system is designed to serve everyone equally. “This initiative is for the farmer in Ikara, the trader in Kachia, the student in Giwa, and the child in Kagarko. No one will be left behind,” he stated.

The program aligns with Kaduna’s adoption of the National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (NEMSAS), approved by the Federal Ministry of Health in 2024, and is expected to serve as a model for other Nigerian states. “This is a bold step toward equity in healthcare. Kaduna is determined to lead in emergency medical innovation while safeguarding the lives of our people,” Governor Sani concluded.
