The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has inaugurated a 100-bed capacity ultra-modern Mother and Child Specialist Hospital in Gombe State, a facility designed to strengthen healthcare delivery for women and children.
The hospital, which has been named in her honour, was built under the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of the federal government’s drive to enhance medical infrastructure across the country.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Senator Tinubu described the facility as a symbol of hope and a step towards reducing the country’s maternal and infant mortality rates. “This hospital has opened doors to life, hope, and a brighter future for women and children of Gombe and beyond,” she said.
She reaffirmed that maternal and child health is a central pillar of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes ensuring that every Nigerian child has access to quality healthcare from birth. “It is my belief that this facility will provide quality health services, reduce maternal and infant mortality, and bring relief to countless families,” she added.
The First Lady also expressed appreciation to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, his wife Hajiya Asma’u, and the people of Gombe for naming the hospital after her. She commended the state government’s ongoing commitment to improving healthcare access and infrastructure for citizens.
In her remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, highlighted the hospital as a demonstration of Nigeria’s dedication to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by Governor Yahaya, his wife, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, and other dignitaries.
The new hospital is expected to serve as a major boost to maternal and child healthcare in Gombe and the wider region, offering specialized services and easing the pressure on existing facilities.
