The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has officially flagged off the construction of the Transit Way N2, a major road project designed to connect Abuja’s Central Area to the Wuse District. The project, which also includes the provision of two essential bridges, is expected to ease traffic flow and improve connectivity within the capital city.
Speaking at the ceremony, Wike explained that the initiative was inspired by the intervention of an elder statesman who had earlier taken personal steps to make the route motorable. He recounted how, during an inspection tour, he observed the effort and felt that government must not allow such patriotic gestures to be carried alone by citizens.
“I want to commend our elder statesmen for taking the bold step to start the construction from that side. I said these are citizens who mean well for our people. I felt they should not be the only ones to bear this burden. So, I directed the FCDA to take over the project and extend it to Wuse,” Wike said.
The minister stressed that the road construction forms part of key infrastructure projects lined up for inauguration during the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He praised the President for his support in expanding Abuja’s infrastructure and promised that the FCT administration would continue to deliver projects that improve the quality of life for residents.
Beyond roads, Wike announced further investments in education and healthcare. He revealed that the FCT administration will embark on the total rehabilitation of not less than 40 schools immediately after the road projects, adding to about 70 schools currently under renovation, with nearly 45 already completed and furnished.
The Transit Way N2 is expected to significantly enhance mobility in Abuja, reduce congestion, and complement other infrastructural upgrades aimed at modernizing the nation’s capital.
