A shocking financial scandal has hit Bayelsa State following reports that a female pastor, identified as Pastor Leghemo Ebimie Tonmene, has allegedly absconded with ₦777 million belonging to investors.
Pastor Tonmene, who is said to be a minister with Christ Embassy Church in Yenagoa, reportedly managed an investment scheme known as “Junior Baraza.” The scheme, which promised attractive returns to investors, has now collapsed amid accusations of massive fraud.
Described by sources as charismatic and well-loved, Pastor Tonmene allegedly used her influence within the church and community to convince dozens of investors—many of them members of her congregation—to invest in the scheme. However, she is now said to have disappeared, leaving behind unpaid debts totaling an estimated ₦777 million.
Reports indicate that her family members are currently searching for her, with the intention of handing her over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as pressure mounts from aggrieved investors who have been harassing her relatives for repayment.
The alleged scam has sent shockwaves across Yenagoa and the broader Bayelsa community, where many victims claim to have invested their life savings in what they believed was a trustworthy venture.
Neither Christ Embassy Church nor the EFCC has issued an official statement on the matter as of press time.
The incident has once again sparked public debate about investment fraud, religious trust, and the urgent need for stronger financial oversight to protect citizens from deceptive schemes.
