The House of Representatives’ Deputy Speaker and Member representing Bende Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has come under sharp criticism from the Abia State Labour Party (LP) Caucus over statements they describe as divisive, arrogant, and unbecoming of a public officer.

In a statement issued by the LP Caucus, the party expressed dismay at Hon. Kalu’s repeated public boasts that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would “capture Abia” in 2027, as well as his claims of being “number six” in the federal hierarchy. According to the caucus, such statements reflect personal ambition and recklessness, aimed at inciting the Federal Government and discrediting the administration of Governor Alex Otti, OFR.

The LP Caucus highlighted that Governor Otti has consistently maintained a cordial relationship with both the President and federal authorities, facilitating numerous infrastructure projects across Abia State. They cited ongoing works such as the Port Harcourt Road, Ohafia-Arochukwu Road, Omenuko Bridge, and the upcoming 25 km Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road as evidence of tangible progress benefiting residents.

The statement further urged Hon. Kalu to exercise decorum, leverage his office to support the state’s development, and refrain from actions that could disrupt Abia’s steady progress. The caucus called on all Abians, across age, gender, profession, and political affiliation, to unite behind Governor Otti’s transformational agenda and reject attempts to derail the state for personal political gain.

The LP Caucus concluded by emphasizing that the people of Abia are discerning and will not be swayed by empty boasts or divisive rhetoric, asserting that ultimate power rests with God Almighty.
