Olukemi Ibikunle, a Nigerian Chief Superintendent of Corrections (CSC), has been named the recipient of the 2025 United Nations Trailblazer Award for Women Justice and Corrections Officers.

The award, presented by the United Nations Department of Peace Operations (UNDPO), recognises Ibikunle for her groundbreaking contributions to prison reform and rehabilitation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Currently serving with the United Nations Organization Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) as a corrections unit engineer, Ibikunle has excelled in a role traditionally dominated by men.

UNDPO highlighted that her initiatives have transformed prison infrastructure and advanced rehabilitation systems to meet international standards, while also strengthening national correctional institutions in the DRC.

Her recognition underscores Nigeria’s growing impact in international corrections and justice reform, and celebrates Ibikunle as a trailblazer for women in leadership roles within security and justice sectors.
