The Lagos State Government has commenced full enforcement actions against all land reclamation projects operating without Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval and Drainage Clearance across the state. The announcement follows the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to developers and corporate bodies engaging in unauthorized land reclamation and waterfront encroachment.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, stated that the grace period, publicized in national newspapers in September, expired on September 25, 2025. In line with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017 and other relevant regulations, authorities are authorized to remove illegal reclamation structures, seize equipment and materials found on prohibited sites, and prosecute offenders under environmental and urban development laws.

Commissioner Wahab warned the public against supporting illegal operators, emphasizing that enforcement actions are crucial for protecting the environment, preventing flooding, and ensuring public safety. He encouraged developers and interested parties to visit the Ministry at Block 16, Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, to obtain the required EIA approvals and Drainage Clearance for lawful reclamation activities.
