Yobe State Governor, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni CON, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to backing the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in curbing drug trafficking and abuse throughout the state. The assurance was given during a public exercise in Kasaisa village, near the Gujba–Maiduguri bypass, where large quantities of seized illicit drugs were destroyed.

Represented by his Deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, Governor Buni commended the NDLEA for its steadfast efforts to protect society, particularly the youth, from the detrimental impacts of drug use. He highlighted the proactive steps taken by the state government, including the provision of patrol vehicles to security agencies such as NDLEA, NAPTIP, and NAFDAC, to strengthen enforcement and community safety.

Governor Buni stressed that drug abuse remains a key contributor to insecurity, displacement, and other social vices, and urged continued collaboration with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ethical Re-Orientation, and the Hisbah Commission to further reduce the menace.

In his keynote remarks, Brigadier General Muhammad Buba Marwa (Rtd), NDLEA Chairman and CEO, represented by Director of Operations DCGN Ahmad Suleiman Ningi, described the destruction exercise as a demonstration of transparency, accountability, and success in the fight against criminal networks. Yobe NDLEA Commander, Abdulazeez Kayode Ogunboye, expressed gratitude to the state government for its support and acknowledged the role of sister security agencies in the ongoing campaign against drug abuse.

The event underlined the joint commitment of the state government and enforcement agencies to building a drug-free society in Yobe State.
