The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) leadership, under President Dr. Mohammad Usman Suleiman, paid an unannounced solidarity visit to the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) in Lokoja, demonstrating concern for members facing challenging working conditions. The visit included the NARD Secretary General, Treasurer, and Chief of Staff to the President.

During the visit, the leadership highlighted the plight of doctors subjected to extreme workloads, citing cases in the Department of Orthopedics where Dr. Victor Audu and Dr. Yomi were scheduled for 22 and 31 call duties respectively in October—a situation NARD described as a form of modern-day slavery. The association strongly emphasized that no call duty should exceed 24 hours and condemned the ongoing overwork as inhumane.

NARD reiterated its demand for immediate government intervention to regulate duty schedules, warning that failure to address the issue before the expiration of a 30-day ultimatum could disrupt industrial harmony. The visit underscored the association’s commitment to protecting the welfare of resident doctors and promoting sustainable working conditions across the country.
