Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has presented ₦80 million cheques to the families of forest guards and vigilante members who lost their lives in recent encounters with kidnappers in Babanla, Oke Ode, and Eleyin communities of Ifelodun and Isin Local Government Areas.

In addition, the Governor approved a ₦100 million support package for the families of community volunteers from Edu and Patigi who were ambushed and killed by kidnappers in July while confronting criminal elements in their area.

Governor AbdulRazaq praised the courage and patriotism of the fallen heroes, describing their sacrifice as a testament to their commitment to community safety.

“We pray for the souls of the deceased. They died in active service, and government cannot but sympathize with the families,” the Governor said in Ilorin while presenting the cheques.

“We will continue to support the families and strengthen security across the state. The military has moved in with full force, and we are determined to ensure the safety of lives and property.”

Dignitaries present at the event included Alhaji Abdullateef Gidado Alakawa, Chairman of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority; Alhaji Muyideen Aliyu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security; and local government chairmen from Ifelodun, Ilorin West, and Asa.

Community leaders Alakawa and Yusuf commended the Governor for his compassionate gesture, noting that the financial support will ease the burden on bereaved families. They also lauded his administration’s continued effort to combat insecurity and restore peace in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government has supplied new logistics support, including fighting equipment and motorcycles, to boost the operations of forest guards and vigilantes across identified flashpoints. The new resources are expected to enhance their capacity to confront kidnappers and support conventional security agencies in ongoing operations.
