Former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has alleged that some Nigerian pilots smoke Indian hemp before flying aircraft.
Kalu made the revelation while expressing concern over the safety and preparedness of airline pilots in the country.
“I’ve on many occasions stopped to fly because of the inadequacy of the pilots’ preparation,” Kalu said.
He continued, “Some of the pilots are not prepared. Some of them use Indian hemp. Yes, it’s true. Some of them smoke Indian hemp.”
The senator’s comments have sparked widespread reactions among aviation stakeholders and the public, raising questions about safety protocols and mental fitness assessments for flight crew members across Nigerian airlines.
