The Edo State Government, through the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), has commenced its Quarter 3 Data Review Meeting and 2026 Workplan Development Retreat for the Immunization Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) Project, supported by the World Bank.

The event, held at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) in Benin City, brought together key stakeholders including Medical Officers of Health and Monitoring and Evaluation Officers from all 18 Local Government Areas of Edo State.

During the session, data gathered from local government activities were presented and reviewed by the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) and partners to assess progress and identify areas for improvement.

The Executive Secretary of EDSPHCDA, Dr. Coulson Oahimire Osoikhia, commended the dedication of the IMPACT team and emphasized the importance of accurate data for effective health planning.

“Let’s see what we are doing and harmonize the data for effective planning and health delivery. I also want to remind you that the PHC Leadership Challenge Test begins Monday — we must be ready and make Edo State proud,” he said.

Dr. Idemudia Osayomore, the IMPACT Project Manager for Edo State, noted that the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) had directed all states to conduct their 2026 Workplan Retreats ahead of the national review in Abuja. He highlighted that while the 2025 focus was on upgrading health infrastructure, the 2026 focus will prioritize service delivery and improved health outcomes.

According to him, 61 healthcare facilities were upgraded across Edo State — 21 in Edo South, 20 in Edo Central, and 20 in Edo North — most nearing completion.

The meeting also reviewed the 2025 workplan, identifying gaps, challenges, and lessons learned to strengthen next year’s strategy.

In her closing remarks, Mrs. Esther Ajayi David, the IMPACT Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, announced that the PHC Challenge Test will commence on October 20, 2025, assessing both facility service delivery and government commitment to primary healthcare.

Facilities were urged to cooperate with assessors and uphold the state’s reputation for excellence in healthcare delivery.
