Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a 46-year-old man, Abi Baragon, following a violent attack on a woman identified as his side partner, leaving her with severe, potentially life-threatening injuries.

The incident, which gained national attention after a video went viral in June 2025, showed the victim pleading for help as she lay in a pool of blood.

In a statement released on October 17, 2025, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, revealed that the suspect was apprehended on October 13, 2025, by operatives from the Human Rights Department at the State Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt. The arrest followed swift intelligence-led policing efforts, bolstered by technical support.

According to the statement, the attack reportedly stemmed from a personal dispute. The victim had allegedly rejected Baragon’s romantic advances after discovering he was married with four children, a claim the suspect denied. During interrogation, Baragon confessed to assaulting the woman with bottles and stabbing her multiple times.

“The suspect voluntarily admitted to using bottles and a knife to inflict injuries on the victim. He is currently in police custody, while the victim is receiving medical treatment at a hospital. An in-depth investigation is ongoing to unravel all circumstances surrounding the incident,” SP Iringe-Koko said.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, commended the Human Rights operatives for their prompt response and thanked the public for their cooperation in providing credible information that led to the arrest.
