Man Arrested for Allegedly Setting Ex-Lover on Fire in Ibadan Military Barracks

Ibadan, Oyo State – Lawal Faruq has been apprehended for allegedly setting his ex-lover, Omolola Hassan, ablaze following the end of their relationship at a military barracks in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack.

According to a counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, who shared details on X, the suspect reportedly claimed that he and the victim had taken an oath never to separate. After their relationship reportedly broke down, he allegedly doused Hassan with petrol and set her on fire.

Soldiers stationed at the barracks intervened immediately, rescuing the victim and extinguishing the flames. She was rushed to Yawiri Hospital in Akobo for treatment, while the suspect was handed over to the police for further investigation.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm and assured that justice will be pursued in accordance with the law.
