The Zamfara State Government has reinstated 103 teachers who were dismissed about seven months ago following a wide-ranging civil service verification exercise.
The announcement was made on Friday by the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mallam Wadatau Madawaki, who confirmed that the reinstated teachers were among the 780 civil servants initially affected by the exercise earlier this year, which led to the suspension of their salaries.
According to Madawaki, a fresh review and verification process revealed that many of the teachers had been wrongfully removed due to administrative errors and omissions. “Those reinstated were cleared after undergoing a thorough verification process. It was discovered that their salaries were stopped due to administrative errors or omissions,” he stated.
The commissioner disclosed that the affected teachers had not received their salaries since January 2025, but that Governor Dauda Lawal has now approved their reinstatement along with the payment of all outstanding arrears covering January to July 2025.
“After presenting the case to His Excellency, Governor Dauda Lawal, and following another round of verification, the Governor graciously approved their return to service,” Madawaki added.
He emphasized that the verification exercise was designed to sanitize the state’s workforce and eliminate irregularities such as ghost workers, double employment, and absenteeism. The commissioner also urged the reinstated teachers to show renewed commitment and dedication to their duties, warning that the government would not tolerate actions that undermine the education sector.
It will be recalled that in January 2025, Zamfara State suspended the salaries of 780 workers following irregularities uncovered during the verification process, including cases of underage employment, falsified records, and staff absenteeism.
