The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), has successfully completed the deportation of 192 foreign nationals convicted for cyber-terrorism, internet fraud, and related financial crimes in Lagos State.
The final batch of 51 convicts—comprising 50 Chinese nationals and one Tunisian—was repatriated on October 16, 2025, officially marking the end of a months-long deportation process that began in mid-August.
According to the EFCC, the exercise followed a major sting operation carried out on December 10, 2024, at Oyin Jolayemi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, during which 759 suspects were arrested in connection with large-scale online scams, money laundering, and Ponzi scheme operations.
Following their conviction by the Federal High Court in Lagos, the EFCC worked closely with the Nigerian Immigration and Correctional Services to facilitate the orderly deportation of the foreign offenders. The first batch of 42 convicts, mainly Chinese and Filipino nationals, was deported on August 15, 2025, with subsequent groups leaving the country through September and October.
The deported individuals included nationals from China, the Philippines, Tunisia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Timor-Leste, all of whom were found guilty of operating an elaborate cybercrime network under the cover of Genting International Co. Limited.
Investigations revealed that the syndicate managed fraudulent digital trading and investment platforms, trained local recruits, and coordinated global online scams targeting victims within and outside Nigeria.
Authorities confirmed that the deportation exercise was conducted in strict compliance with court directives and international protocols, underscoring the Federal Government’s zero-tolerance stance on cybercrime and transnational fraud.
