Human rights activist and pro-democracy campaigner, Omoyele Sowore, has debunked reports suggesting that a valid court order exists to stop the planned #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest near the Aso Rock Villa.

Sowore, in a statement issued on Sunday, clarified that no legally binding injunction currently restricts the protest, insisting that the alleged order being cited by the Nigeria Police Force is “false, misleading, and legally void.”

According to him, under Nigerian law, any ex parte order not served within the stipulated period automatically expires and holds no legal effect against the parties involved.

“There is no valid court order restricting the planned #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest from Aso Rock Villa. The so-called order the Nigeria Police Force claimed to have obtained has no legal effect because it was never served on the named defendants or organizers,” Sowore stated.

He emphasized that citizens retain their constitutional right to peaceful assembly and protest, noting that attempts to misinform the public or intimidate organizers amount to an abuse of power.

“In other words, there is nothing to defy — no binding restriction, no valid injunction. The people’s constitutional right to peaceful assembly and protest remains intact and unstoppable,” he added.

Sowore further described the police claim as a deliberate act of deception aimed at suppressing civic expression and warned that Nigerians will not be silenced by threats or fabricated legal claims.

The planned #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest, according to organizers, seeks the immediate release of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, whose continued incarceration despite multiple court orders has drawn both local and international criticism.
