Anambra Police Arrest Female Accomplice in Armed Robbery, Recover Stolen Vehicle

Anambra State – The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with Agunechemba Security, has arrested a 23-year-old woman, Okonkwo Onyinye, following a violent robbery and kidnapping incident in Nkwelle-Ezunaka. A stolen Toyota Highlander SUV was also recovered during the operation.

According to police reports, the victim was ambushed at Nkwelle GRA Gate by five armed men traveling in a Toyota Corolla. He was forced into the boot of the vehicle, taken to a bush in Umuoji Town, and dispossessed of his phone and ₦24 million. The assailants then escaped with his SUV.

Using technologically driven intelligence, the joint security team traced the suspects’ movements through Nawfia to Ogidi, where a brief exchange of gunfire occurred before the perpetrators fled. The police successfully recovered the white Toyota Highlander with registration number RBC 649 CN and arrested Onyinye, who is now providing information to assist in apprehending the remaining gang members.

The Anambra State Police Command has intensified patrols across the state in anticipation of the November 8 governorship election, ensuring residents that security agencies are committed to maintaining law and order.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, emphasized that the suspect’s cooperation is crucial in helping authorities dismantle the criminal network and safeguard citizens during the election period.
