Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has signed a strategic grant agreement with Swedfund, Sweden’s Development Finance Institution, to strengthen the security and reliability of Nigeria’s emerging 5G networks.

Fifth-generation mobile technology promises faster internet speeds, low latency, and the capacity to connect millions of devices. However, its complex infrastructure and involvement of multiple vendors pose new security challenges.

Through this collaboration, the NCC intends to implement a risk-based framework to ensure that 5G and future network systems are designed, deployed, and operated securely. The initiative underscores the regulator’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s digital ecosystem, particularly as 5G becomes crucial for sectors such as power, healthcare, transport, and education.

Officials emphasized that enhancing security and trust in 5G technology is critical for public confidence, national interests, and a resilient digital economy.
