Armed assailants have abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Samaila Bagudu, in Bagudu Local Government Area of the state.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen invaded Bagudu town on Friday evening, firing several gunshots into the air to cause panic. The lawmaker was reportedly taken captive shortly after observing evening prayers and leaving the mosque for his home.
Sources within the community said the attackers operated for several minutes without challenge before escaping with the lawmaker to an undisclosed location.
Security operatives have since launched a manhunt to rescue Hon. Bagudu and track down the perpetrators. However, the Kebbi State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The abduction has caused widespread fear among residents of Bagudu and neighbouring communities, with many calling on authorities to strengthen security and address the growing threat of kidnappings in the state.
