The Chinese government has expressed firm support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, affirming confidence in Nigeria’s ability to pursue a development path that reflects its own national realities and priorities.

Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, Mao Ning, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, said Beijing remains committed to its longstanding partnership with Nigeria and stands firmly against any form of external interference in the country’s internal affairs.

“As Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs, and threatening other countries with sanctions and force,” Mao stated.

Her remarks followed a question regarding former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threat of possible military action in Nigeria over allegations of persecution of Christians.

Mao reiterated that China believes mutual respect and non-interference are the cornerstones of international relations, stressing that every nation has the right to determine its development model free from external coercion.

The statement underscores the deepening China-Nigeria relationship, which has continued to expand through trade, infrastructure, and technological cooperation under the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between both nations.
