Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Joint Task Force North East, have successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist assault on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kangar, Mallam Fatori, Borno State, in the early hours of Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

According to military sources, the attack began around 4:30 a.m., when Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists launched an offensive using armed drones and mortar fire against the defensive positions of the base. The troops, reinforced by the Main Force Battalion under Sector 3, displayed remarkable bravery and tactical superiority, effectively neutralising the threat.

Despite the intensity of the drone and indirect fire bombardment, the soldiers held their ground, engaging the insurgents in a fierce exchange of gunfire. They received close air support from Nigerien Fighter Ground Attack platforms, which played a crucial role in repelling the attackers.

The terrorists, overwhelmed by the joint firepower and coordination of the multinational forces, retreated in disarray into the Tumbuns waterways, carrying away several casualties. A post-battle sweep of the area confirmed the neutralisation of six terrorists and recovery of several items, including five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, 258 rounds of ammunition, RPG bombs, armed drone bombs, grenades, and an Android phone.

Follow-up air interdictions carried out jointly by the Nigerian and Nigerien Air Forces targeted the fleeing militants, neutralising additional fighters and destroying their escape routes.

The report added that a few personnel of the Joint Task Force and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) sustained minor injuries during the encounter. They were promptly evacuated by Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) platforms for medical attention and are in stable condition. The MNJTF also provided Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) support throughout the engagement.

Military sources confirmed that exploitation operations are ongoing in the surrounding waterways and adjoining areas to pursue the fleeing terrorists and restrict their movement. Troop morale remains high as forces continue to assert dominance across the North East theatre.

The Military High Command commended the troops for their resilience, courage, and professionalism, reaffirming the Nigerian Armed Forces’ commitment to restoring lasting peace and security across the North East region through sustained and coordinated operations.
