Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have achieved another breakthrough in their ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities in Benue and Taraba States. In a series of coordinated operations on 31 October 2025, the troops apprehended seven suspected criminals and recovered several stolen and illegal items.

According to a statement released by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer, HQ JTF Operation WHIRL STROKE, troops deployed at Camp Zaki-Biam in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State were conducting a fighting and confidence-building patrol when they received credible intelligence about the presence of suspected criminals at Wukari Junction. Acting promptly, the troops moved to the area and arrested four suspects identified as Mr. Ter’Ese Ioryenmen (34), Mr. Oanduna Oruman (37), Mr. Shaagba Dominic (27), and Mr. Solomon Kortya (30).

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects served as an informant to a notorious kidnapper known as Mathew. Items recovered during the operation included one motorcycle, one master key, four mobile phones, some unidentified drugs, and the sum of ₦19,500.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops stationed at Tor Donga in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area responded swiftly to intelligence from a local resident regarding an ongoing robbery along Mbache Road in Mbache Council Ward. Working in conjunction with the Benue State Community Protection Guards (BSCPG), the troops mobilized to the scene and arrested three suspects: Master Aondohenba Godwin (35), Master Dooron Washina (19), and Master Terkuma Zahemen (15).

Recovered items from the scene included a paper-constructed toy pistol, nine mobile phones, one solar panel, and four MP3 speakers. All suspects are currently in the custody of Operation WHIRL STROKE pending further directives.

The Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism, and gallantry, urging them to sustain their efforts in the fight against kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities within their operational zones. He also reassured residents of Benue and Taraba States of the Task Force’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, and called on the public to continue providing credible information to aid security operations.
