Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested 27-year-old Madu Chukwuemeka Miracle for attempting to smuggle cocaine cleverly concealed inside bathing soaps from Kenya into Nigeria, en route to Spain.
According to a statement issued by the Director, Media and Advocacy of the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, the suspect was apprehended at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), Enugu, upon arrival from Nairobi, Kenya, via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Wednesday, October 26.
During a meticulous search of his luggage, NDLEA operatives discovered 76 foreign bathing soaps neatly packed in one of his bags. Laboratory tests confirmed the soaps were infused with cocaine. In another bag, two plastic bottles containing cream-like liquid were found, which also tested positive for the same illicit substance.
The NDLEA spokesperson revealed that the cocaine bars weighed 10.650 kilograms, while the liquid cocaine weighed 2.496 kilograms, bringing the total weight to 13.146 kilograms.
The agency has since launched a full investigation into the network behind the attempted smuggling operation, noting that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying efforts against international drug trafficking syndicates and maintaining zero tolerance for illicit drug activities across Nigeria’s borders.
