The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed off Ejanla Restaurant at No. 40, Fola Osibo Street, Lekki, Lagos for what it described as deliberate discharge of raw sewage into public drains through a pumping machine. Officials say the act caused offensive odour in the community, posed environmental pollution, and endangered human life.
According to LSWMO, the enforcement took place on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Commission’s headquarters. The agency warned, “Every act of environmental nuisance and pollution portends grave dangers to public health and will be met with appropriate sanctions and or prosecution.”
This action forms part of a series of similar operations carried out across Lagos to address unlawful wastewater discharge and protect public health. In Ikoyi, Osborne Foreshore Estate, Eti-Osa, two buildings were sealed for obstructing inspections and unlawfully discharging raw sewage into public drains.
A similar incident was recorded in Okota, where a residential property at No. 59 Ajoke Okusanya Street, off Ago Palace Way, was sealed after it was found pumping raw sewage from a septic tank into the public drainage system.
In Ilasan, Lekki Peninsula II, Eti-Osa Local Government Area, a three-storey residential building was also sealed for discharging untreated wastewater and faecal matter into public drains using a pumping machine.
At Ijora, No. 229 Moshood Abiola Way, a property was sealed for discharging untreated sewage into public drains, posing environmental and health risks.
Public toilets at Katangua Market, including facilities at Ile-Epo Market along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, were also sealed after officials discovered that untreated wastewater and sewage were being pumped into open drains.
The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office reiterated its commitment to protecting the environment, maintaining sanitation standards, and ensuring that property owners across the state install proper wastewater treatment systems to prevent further pollution.
