Authorities in Benue State have successfully intervened in a case involving two teenage girls, aged 15 and 17, who were misled into traveling to Ibadan under false promises of employment opportunities.

“Mr. Tersoo deceived two girls (age 15 and 17), moved them from Benue State to Ibadan with promise to give them good jobs.”

Upon arrival, the girls were placed in a situation they did not agree to, prompting them to try to return home.

“Out of fear, the girls started the work but got tired, trying so hard to return home.”

The suspect allegedly requested ₦300,000 per girl from their families to secure their release.

“Tersoo again moved them to another camp, started demanding ₦300,000 per person from parents if they want their children back.”

Law enforcement successfully tracked and arrested Mr. Tersoo, ensuring the safety of the two girls.

“He was tracked and arrested yesterday.”

“The girls are currently in park to return home.”

Community leaders are urging everyone to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to help prevent similar cases.

“No one is resting till human trafficking is no more in Benue. If you see or hear anything, contact me fast... my inbox is always open.”

The incident adds to a concerning pattern of human trafficking in Benue State. In August 2025, a suspected trafficker from Katsina‑Ala LGA was arrested after 11 children were rescued; the children were allegedly moved to Edo State and sold for ₦30,000 each.

In October 2025, NAPTIP rescued 26 trafficked children from an orphanage in Benue, reportedly sold for ₦1 million to ₦3 million each. In the same year, authorities reported that 63 trafficked Benue indigenes were rescued, with several suspects investigated and convicted.

Earlier, in May 2025, a syndicate intending to send children to Libya for exploitative work was busted in Makurdi, while in February 2025, the Benue Police Command arrested 18 suspects for child trafficking and related offenses. As far back as January 2022, NAPTIP reported 48 arrests across seven LGAs, with 45 rescued victims.

These cases highlight the ongoing challenge of human trafficking in the state and the critical need for community awareness and proactive measures to safeguard vulnerable children.
