The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has officially revoked the over-decade-old contract for the Apo-Karshi Road, which was awarded in 2011 to Kakatar Construction Company Ltd. The move comes after years of slow progress and non-performance by the original contractor.

Wike made the announcement Thursday during an inspection tour of several ongoing road projects, including the Karu-Customs-CBN Road, Gishiri-Katampe Road, and Apo-Wasa Carriageway. He explained that due to the contractor’s inability to deliver, the project has been re-awarded on an emergency basis to SCC Nigeria Limited, a company capable of completing the work quickly. Construction has already resumed at the site.

The Minister emphasized that road projects should not be used as political tools and insisted that residents’ welfare must be the top priority. He also announced that the long-awaited Kubwa-Bwari Road has been officially awarded, and construction has started to provide an alternative route for commuters in the area.

During the inspection, Wike addressed a shop owner whose building was marked for demolition for blocking a water channel. The owner was upset about losing her property, but Wike assured her that she would receive adequate compensation. He explained that the structure had to be removed to prevent flooding and protect the community.

Wike stressed that public interest must always come before individual concerns in development projects. He expressed satisfaction with the warm reception from residents along the routes, noting that their support shows appreciation for the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and their quality of life.

He also revealed that many of these road projects will be completed and officially commissioned as part of the third-anniversary celebrations of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Lastly, Wike announced that the FCT will not start any new contracts in 2026, focusing instead on completing the ongoing projects started in 2025, as that year will be a political year.
