Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has assured residents that his government is fully dedicated to protecting the people and their property. He made this pledge during a meeting with Major General Oluremi Fadairo, the newly appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 82 Division of the Nigeria Army in Enugu, who was visiting the state for familiarization.
Governor Otti emphasized that security is costly but crucial. He said, "We also know that security costs a lot of money, so we spare no efforts in ensuring that our people are secured." He explained that without prioritizing security, other development efforts would be meaningless. “If people cannot sleep with their two eyes closed, no matter how much investment you put in, nobody will patronize it,” he added.
The governor assured the military leader of the state's full support and cooperation. He urged the GOC to visit all military locations and battalions within Abia, promising maximum assistance.
In response, Major General Fadairo, who also oversees the South East Joint Task Force Operation Udoka, pledged to leverage his extensive experience from previous postings in the East to help reduce crime and insecurity in Abia and the South East region. He called for continued support from the people of Abia, praising their past cooperation, and expressed confidence that his familiarity with the area would aid security efforts. He also thanked Governor Otti for his support and noted that he has been briefed thoroughly on the state's security initiatives.
In related news, the Abia State Government announced that security has been heightened across the state in preparation for the Christmas festivities. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Navy Commander MacDonald Uba (Rtd), confirmed this after a monthly Security Council meeting led by Governor Otti. He stated that existing security measures have been reinforced, and security agencies are now on high alert nationwide.
Commander Uba assured residents that there will be increased security presence in key locations to ensure a peaceful and safe Yuletide season. He emphasized that the government is responding to national security trends and is committed to maintaining peace during the holidays.
The security meeting, attended by leaders of all security agencies in the state, reviewed ongoing operations and agreed on new strategies to protect the public during the festive period. The updates were confirmed by the governor’s press secretary, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, in a statement issued on November 27, 2025.
