Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has unveiled 14 newly acquired 18-seater buses for the Katsina State Transport Authority (KTSTA), reinforcing his administration’s commitment to building a reliable, safe, and accessible transportation system for citizens across the state.

The commissioning ceremony, held in Katsina, gathered top government officials, transport stakeholders, community representatives, and members of the KTSTA workforce. The atmosphere reflected both excitement and relief as the new vehicles signaled a renewed effort to ease the burden of transportation for thousands of commuters.

Governor Radda described the launch as a strategic investment aimed at revitalising KTSTA, which for years had struggled with an ageing fleet, rising operational costs, and growing demand for public mobility. He noted that the acquisition of the buses was not just a replacement exercise, but a conscious step toward transforming the state-owned transport system into a modern, efficient, and economically viable service provider.

According to the governor, the new buses will be deployed on critical intra-city, inter-city, and inter-state routes, ensuring that residents in both urban and rural communities enjoy more dependable travel options. He emphasised that improving mass transit is central to the state’s broader development agenda, as transportation plays an essential role in enabling trade, facilitating access to healthcare and education, and connecting citizens to economic opportunities.

Governor Radda further highlighted that the new buses were equipped with improved safety features and designed to offer better comfort to passengers. He reassured commuters that the government had put in place a maintenance plan to preserve the lifespan and efficiency of the vehicles, stressing that durability and safety remain top priorities.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of KTSTA expressed gratitude to the government for the intervention, noting that the new buses will significantly enhance the agency’s operational capacity. He stated that with the addition of these vehicles, KTSTA is better positioned to provide punctual, affordable, and coordinated transportation services across the state and beyond. He also pledged strict adherence to maintenance schedules and operational standards to ensure that the investment delivers long-term value.

Community leaders and residents welcomed the development, describing it as timely and impactful, particularly amid rising transportation costs and the challenges commuters face on daily routes. Many expressed hope that the expansion of the fleet would reduce travel delays, improve service reliability, and provide a safer alternative to private and informal transport systems.

The newly launched buses are expected to commence operations immediately, marking another step in the administration’s ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening infrastructure, enhancing public services, and improving the overall quality of life for the people of Katsina State.
