Anambra Chief Judge Visits Onitsha Correctional Centre, Grants Bail to Inmates

Onitsha, Anambra State – The Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, visited the Onitsha Correctional Centre as part of the judiciary’s annual review of inmates’ cases. The exercise aims to ensure timely justice and reduce prolonged detention, in line with the Anambra State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2022.

During the visit, six inmates were discharged, and seven others were granted bail. Chief Justice Anyachebelu, represented by Honorable Justice Nweze, emphasized that the review is a routine exercise conducted every year to decongest the prison and ensure fair treatment for all inmates.

The Controller of Onitsha Correctional Centre, Mr. Ike Anselem, expressed gratitude to the judiciary, noting that the visit provides hope to inmates awaiting trial and reinforces the commitment of the Correctional Service to work closely with the judiciary for timely justice.

The initiative highlights the state government’s continued efforts to uphold justice and address prolonged detention in Anambra State
