The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed widespread reports of an impending cult-related clash in parts of the state, describing the claims as false alarms and urging residents to remain calm while continuing their daily activities without fear.
In an official statement issued on Monday, the Command addressed circulating messages that warned of possible violence in areas including Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda, and the Ishaga axis. The reports had suggested that the alleged clash could occur as a retaliatory attack linked to an earlier incident, raising concerns among residents in the affected communities.
However, the police clarified that proactive measures were immediately taken following the emergence of the reports, with security personnel swiftly deployed to the identified locations and surrounding areas to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Tijani Fatai, directed intensified patrols and strategic positioning of officers across the mentioned flashpoints. According to the Command, security presence has been significantly increased, with visible policing aimed at deterring any potential unlawful gatherings or activities.
Authorities emphasized that the situation across the affected areas remains under control, with no confirmed incident of cult-related violence at the time of the statement. The police maintained that the deployment of operational assets and personnel was part of precautionary efforts to ensure public safety and reassure residents.
The Command further stressed that there is no cause for alarm, encouraging members of the public to go about their lawful businesses without apprehension. It reiterated that law enforcement agencies are fully on ground and committed to maintaining peace and stability across the state.
While acknowledging that the circulating messages had generated anxiety in some quarters, the police advised residents to disregard unverified information capable of inciting panic. The Command urged the public to rely on official communication channels for accurate updates regarding security situations.
Residents were also encouraged to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station. The Command provided emergency contact lines for immediate reporting, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in sustaining security efforts.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that continuous monitoring and rapid response strategies are in place to address any emerging threats. Officials added that surveillance and intelligence gathering have been strengthened to ensure early detection of potential security risks.
The development highlights the growing challenge posed by misinformation in urban security environments, where unverified reports can spread rapidly and create unnecessary tension among residents. Security agencies have increasingly emphasized the need for responsible information sharing to avoid escalating fear or disrupting normal activities.
Despite the reassurance, security presence is expected to remain heightened in the identified areas in the coming days as part of preventive policing measures. The Command indicated that it will continue to review and adjust its deployment strategy based on ongoing assessments of the situation.
As Lagos continues to manage complex urban security dynamics, authorities say collaboration between law enforcement and the public remains essential in maintaining peace. The police have therefore reiterated their appeal for residents to stay alert, report credible concerns, and avoid amplifying unverified claims.
The Lagos State Police Command concluded by reaffirming its resolve to sustain law and order, assuring residents that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure that peace prevails across the state.
