The Oyo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for three armed men who abducted a middle‑aged businessman, Alhaji Wasiu Alesinloye, at his residence in the Irawo community of Atisbo Local Government Area. The attack, which occurred around 10:20 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026, also left a 10‑year‑old girl, Modinat Aleshinloye, with gunshot injuries, the police have confirmed.

According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, preliminary investigations revealed that the assailants had trailed the victim from Kraal Market in Ago‑Are to his filling station at Irawo and subsequently to his residence, where they seized him at gunpoint and whisked him away to an unknown destination. During the attack, the gunmen fired several shots into the air to scare off residents, and a stray bullet hit the young girl, who was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment and extraction of pellets.

Police detectives who visited the scene recovered three expended ammunition shells, which are currently undergoing ballistic examination, and three face caps, which have been retained for forensic investigation. As of the time of filing this report, the kidnappers had not established contact with the victim’s family, and no ransom demand had been made. DSP Ayanlade stated that tactical and intelligence‑driven efforts are ongoing to rescue the victim unharmed and apprehend the perpetrators.

The attack has deepened security concerns in the Atisbo axis, which has witnessed a spike in abductions in recent months. In early May, a farmer, Quadri Oloriegbe, was abducted from Olopoto Village in the Irawo area and later freed after spending several days in captivity. In a separate development, the Oyo State Police Command recently paraded a 16‑member kidnapping syndicate responsible for multiple abductions in the Igana, Iwajowa and Ogbomoso areas, including the 2022 kidnapping of the farm manager of the late former Governor Adebayo Alao‑Akala. The police have since intensified patrols and deployed tactical units to forest reserves in the Atisbo axis, but residents remain on edge as insecurity continues to spread across the North‑Central and South‑West borderlands.

As of Tuesday morning, the injured girl was reported to be in stable condition, receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital in the area. The Oyo State Police Command has urged members of the public to provide any useful information that could assist in rescue efforts. Meanwhile, the family of Alhaji Wasiu Alesinloye has appealed for prayers and urged the government to intensify efforts to secure his safe release.
