The Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered a large quantity of illicit and controlled substances following a targeted early-morning raid in the Amukpe area of Sapele Local Government Area. The operation, carried out on May 22, 2026, at approximately 5:30 a.m., was based on credible intelligence and led to the apprehension of a 40-year-old male identified as Onyedikachi and a 36-year-old female, Edna Karaki, both residents of Amukpe, Sapele. During a search of the hideout, operatives recovered a significant haul of suspected drugs, including Tramadol, CSC Codeine, Molly, Swinol, Vagadine, Red Boy, Zaza, Taker, and other unconfirmed harmful substances. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly involved in the sale and distribution of the recovered drugs, and both reportedly confessed to dealing in controlled substances during interrogation. The suspects remain in custody as a discreet investigation continues to uncover the full scope of their network and identify other members of the syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for the successful operation and reaffirmed the command's commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the state. He noted that illicit drug abuse fuels crimes such as cultism, armed robbery, and other violent offences, and assured residents that the command will sustain intelligence-led operations. The police urged members of the public to support the force with credible information, which can be reported through the Command Control Room on 08036684974 or the Violent Crime Response Unit on 09123772889. The arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown on drug-related crimes in Delta State, which has seen several similar operations in recent weeks.
