Atiku Abubakar Wins ADC Presidential Primary in Yobe State With 44,841 Votes in Landslide Victory

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as the winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election in Yobe State, polling 44,841 votes in the exercise conducted at the party secretariat in Damaturu. The result was announced on Monday, 25 May 2026, by the Chairperson of the Electoral Committee and State Primary Election Returning Officer, Hajiya Ma’am Kyari. According to the official collation, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi secured 300 votes, while businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen polled 365 votes.

Declaring the result, Hajiya Kyari said the exercise was conducted peacefully and in compliance with the party’s guidelines. “Having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, H.E. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, GCON, is hereby declared the winner of the ADC Presidential Primary Election in Yobe State,” she stated. She commended party members, officials, and security agencies for ensuring a smooth and orderly process across the three senatorial zones of the state, and appreciated all aspirants and their supporters for maintaining decorum.

Reacting to the outcome, the ADC governorship candidate in Yobe State, Kassim Geidam, described the primary election as peaceful, successful and encouraging. Geidam expressed satisfaction with the level of participation and cooperation demonstrated by party supporters across Zones A, B and C, and commended party executives, security agencies, traditional rulers, and media practitioners for their professionalism and neutrality. He called on all party members to remain peaceful in all political activities.

The Yobe primary victory is part of a strong early showing for Atiku Abubakar within the ADC. In Zamfara State, Atiku polled 60,500 votes to defeat Hayatu-Deen, who scored 446 votes, and Amaechi, who secured 191 votes, with the primary conducted across all 147 wards in the 14 local government areas. In Sokoto State, Atiku secured 68,823 votes across the 23 local government areas, while Amaechi polled 292 votes and Hayatu-Deen secured 319 votes. The ADC presidential primary election took place simultaneously in 8,809 wards nationwide as part of the party’s process ahead of the 2027 general election.
