The Lagos State Police Command has moved swiftly to reassure parents, school authorities, and residents following reports of a threatening notice allegedly pasted at a school, claiming that bandits intend to attack and abduct school children within the state. The Command, in a press release issued on Monday, June 8, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, stated that there is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack in Lagos.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, has directed immediate assessment of the situation and ordered watertight security measures across the affected area and other strategic locations within the state. Police personnel, in collaboration with other security agencies, have been deployed to ensure the safety of schools, critical infrastructure, and communities. The Command emphasised that Lagos State remains secure and that every lawful measure is being taken to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating or operating within the state.

The reassurance comes amid heightened anxiety over a wave of school abductions in other parts of the country, including the May 15 kidnapping of over 46 pupils and teachers in Oyo State’s Oriire Local Government Area, where victims remain in captivity despite ongoing rescue operations. Parents and guardians across Lagos had expressed fear following the circulation of the alleged threat notice, prompting the police to issue an urgent public statement.

CP Fatai warned that the Command will not tolerate any attempt by miscreants, bandits, kidnappers, or other criminal elements to threaten the peace and safety of residents. Any individual or group found engaging in acts capable of causing fear, panic, or insecurity will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law. The Commissioner urged residents to remain calm and avoid panic, while also encouraging them to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information.

The Command reiterated that security is a collective responsibility, and effective policing thrives on active partnership between the police and members of the public. Residents are urged to promptly report any suspicious persons, objects, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.

The Lagos State Police Command reassured the public that all hands are on deck to ensure the continued safety, security, and well-being of every resident of Lagos State.
