KADUNA, Nigeria – The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, has said that quality education, active citizenship, and community cooperation with security agencies are critical tools in the fight against banditry, terrorism, and other security challenges facing the country. Speaking at the commissioning of the Kaduna Christian Academy on Sunday, June 7, 2026, Musa argued that lasting security cannot be achieved through military force alone and that defeating ignorance and hopelessness is central to building lasting peace.
The school, located in Ungwan Bulus in Sabon Tasha, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was donated to the Christian community by friends of the Director‑General of the Department of State Services, Mr. Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi. It is the second such intervention by the group; in May 2025, they donated an Islamic school to the Muslim community in Danbushiya, also in Chikun LGA. Musa described the academy as a “strategic non‑kinetic intervention,” arguing that education is “a weapon of mass instruction in the right hands”. He stressed that an educated and enlightened population offers a stronger defence against extremism, criminality, and social instability than force alone, and that schools help equip children with academic knowledge, critical thinking skills, and sound moral values.
Musa also urged citizens to support security agencies with credible information, noting that terrorists and bandits often rely on local collaborators. “If we keep quiet, they will continue to destroy us. But if we speak out, they will not have any space to survive,” he warned. He praised Governor Uba Sani for promoting inclusion and peaceful coexistence and commended the resilience of the people of Southern Kaduna, urging them to resist divisive elements.
Governor Uba Sani, represented by the State Attorney‑General and Commissioner for Justice, James Kanyip, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to expanding access to quality education. Kanyip described the project as a boost to the state’s education sector, noting that “every classroom built creates opportunity for learning, and every child educated strengthens our communities”.
Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria for the 19 Northern States and the FCT, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, said the academy reflects the belief that education remains one of the most effective solutions to insecurity, poverty, and other social challenges. The Chief Imam of Sultan Bello Mosque, Kaduna, Professor Suleiman Adam, commended the DSS Director‑General for promoting interfaith harmony. The event underscored a growing consensus among security, political, and religious leaders that investing in education is as vital to national defence as any military operation.
