The Oyo State Government, on Monday, June 8, 2026, demolished a three‑bedroom bungalow identified as the hideout where suspected kidnappers held the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12‑year‑old twin sons before they were rescued by police operatives over the weekend. The building, located in the Lakoun community along the Ayegun‑Olojuoro Road in Ibadan, was flattened by officials of the Oyo State Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, accompanied by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.

The demolition followed a high‑powered security assessment of the site led by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Oluwagbemiga Abimbola, on Sunday. Sharing a video of the demolition on X, an Oyo‑based local media platform, Oyo Affairs, wrote, “The Oyo State Government has demolished kidnappers’ den at Lakoun, Ayegun‑Olojuoro road, Ibadan, where the sister of former Minister Adebayo Adelabu and her children were held captive.”

The victims, Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12‑year‑old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were abducted around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, while she was driving them to school at the Elewura area of Challenge in Ibadan. They were rescued unharmed three days later on Saturday, June 6, during a police operation at the same location. According to police sources, the rescue followed intelligence gathering and surveillance that led operatives to the hideout. Two members of the kidnapping syndicate were shot dead during the rescue operation, while four suspects were arrested and paraded on Sunday at the State Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan. A cache of weapons, criminal charms, and an unregistered Toyota Corolla were also recovered from the gang.

The demolition of the criminal den is part of the state government’s ongoing measures to curb kidnapping and other criminal activities. Government officials said the action sends a strong message to criminal elements and reflects the administration’s determination to strengthen security across the state. “Properties found to be linked to criminal activities will not be spared as efforts continue to dismantle criminal networks and ensure the safety of residents throughout Oyo,” a government statement read.

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, has dismissed as false, malicious, and baseless any attempt to link him to the abduction. In a statement issued on Sunday, his media office said the publication circulating on social media suggesting his involvement was “irresponsible” and “completely devoid of credibility.” “For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Alli has no connection whatsoever with the said criminal incident, the individuals mentioned, or any activity related to kidnapping or violence,” the statement read. It added that no security agency had established any link between Senator Alli and the alleged crime.

The demolition came just weeks after a separate mass abduction involving over 40 students and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, whose fate remains unknown as rescue operations continue.
