The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued a four-year-old boy following an intelligence-led operation in Bauchi.
According to a statement issued on Friday, 12 June 2026, by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the incident followed a kidnapping complaint lodged by the victim’s father.
The father, a 45-year-old resident of Gida Dudu Housing Estate in Bauchi metropolis, reported that his four-year-old son, identified as Musa (surname withheld), was abducted from the frontage of their residence.
Police said the complaint was received on 10 June 2026, after which detectives from the State Intelligence Department launched an investigation into the case.
Preliminary findings revealed that the child was allegedly lured away on 9 June 2026 by one of the suspects, identified as Muhammad Usman, aged 39. The suspect was said to have taken the child to the residence of a second suspect, Hayatudeen Ahmad, aged 40, also residing within the same housing estate.
According to the police statement, the first suspect allegedly deceived the second suspect by claiming the child was his relative and that he needed temporary assistance in caring for him.
Investigators further disclosed that the suspect later issued a ransom demand of ₦5 million, which was delivered to the victim’s family alongside a contact number for payment.
Following the complaint, detectives tracked the suspects and proceeded to the residence of the second suspect, where the child was found alive and unharmed.
The boy was subsequently rescued and reunited with his family, while both suspects were arrested at the scene.
The police confirmed that the suspects remain in custody and are cooperating with investigators as interrogation continues. Authorities said further investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the abduction and ransom demand.
The Command also noted that the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism in ensuring the safe recovery of the child.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state, while urging parents and guardians to remain vigilant and closely monitor their children, especially within residential environments.
The Bauchi State Police Command said the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
